Recent years have been a time of incredible technical advancement and public engagement. This results in people routinely using technological tools. Specifically, people have put more faith in the realm of human-vehicle interaction as a result of the sophisticated use of technology. Users are more at ease with their own safety because of the many ADAS capabilities. Naturally, these changes have repercussions for automakers all over the world, but they also point the way forward for researchers in the "social, economic, and cultural" sphere.
Many factors, like the degree to which people embrace new technology, their level of faith in machines, the amount of political backing offered for the new advancements, the influence of geography, and so on, will determine the ultimate success of driver assistance systems in automobiles. The last one, though, is "user." In this respect, users play a crucial role in the effective rollout of ADAS. As a result, it is imperative that the user experience design and development (UXD&D) community investigate and propose future ADAS solutions with humans in mind.

Ankit R. Patel

Ankit R. Patel is currently associated with the University of Minho, Portugal. He serves on the various positions at the international conferences like track chair for the IEEE ITEC 2023, 2024; DIA Chair ACM COMPASS 2024; associate chair for the ACM IMX 2023, 2024; co-chair for the ACM AutomotiveUI 2023; and proceedings chair for the IEEE e-Science 2023. He also serves as an associate editor for the EAI Endorsed Transactions on Smart Cities; and Journal of Social Economics Research; and editorial board member for the Journal of Sustainable Urban Mobility. He received a best poster paper award in the 2019 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), Macau. He also serves as a reviewer in many journals included Transport; Journal of Transport and Health (Elsevier); Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour; and conferences like CHI, ozCHI, INTERACT, TRB, NordiCHI, MuC, ITS America. His research interest includes travel behavior and policy, human factors and interactions, socially inclusive transportation, and transport psychology.

Philipp Wintersberger

Philipp Wintersberger is a Professor of Interactive Systems at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Hagenberg) and lecturer at TU Wien. His research addresses human-machine cooperation in safety-critical AI driven systems. He has (co)authored many publications published at major journals and conferences (such as ACM CHI, ACM AutomotiveUI, IEEE IV, Human Factors), and his contributions have won several awards, including ACM AutomotiveUI Best Paper, Best Work-in-Progress, as well as Honourable Mentions. Further, he is member of the ACM AutomotiveUI steering committee, contributed to HCI conferences in various roles in the past (Technical Program Chair AutomotiveUI’21, Workshop Chair Muc’21, Diversity, and Inclusion Chair Muc’22), and is one of the main organizers of the CHI workshop on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). Currently, he leads a group of researchers and Ph.D. students working on human-AI cooperation in multiple FWF and FFG funded projects.

Dustin Souders
Clemson University, USA
Dustin Souders [pronounced Soww-durs] is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Clemson University in the Human Factors Area and head of the STAAR Lab. Leveraging his knowledge of aging, technology use and adoption, and transportation technologies, Dustin's research focuses on making advanced vehicle technologies more useful, safe, and attractive to older adults as they seek to maintain their community mobility in later life. He earned his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Florida State University in 2018. His postdoc was multidisciplinary at Purdue University, where he worked with Civil Engineers and Policy Researchers on research on the ethical, legal, and social issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles.

Tiziana C. Callari
Loughborough University, UK
Tiziana is a Senior Research Associate at Loughborough University, Loughborough (UK). She collaborates with the Intelligent Automation Centre at Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, to develop the EPSRC Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Made Smarter Innovation: Smart Cobotics project. Her contribution regards embedding human factors and ethical considerations in human-robot collaboration in the manufacturing industry. She obtained her PhD in Applied Psychology and Ergonomics at the University of Turin (Italy), and then pursued her academic career overseas employing interdisciplinary human factors approaches at different Schools and Research centres in the USA (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston), Australia (Deakin University), Ireland (Trinity College, Dublin) and the UK (Coventry University, University of Leeds, and now at Loughborough University). Taking a systems approach, her research interests focus on improving the interaction between work operators and the different systems’ components/elements. In her research, she has addressed topics such as: safety in various manufacturing and service sectors; design and development of intelligent and haptic technologies to improve wellbeing and work conditions; Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Machine Interaction and Human-Robot Interaction design, implementation and evaluation; work on adaptive/intelligent systems that may include Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence tools.

Tanja Stoll
Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland
Tanja Stoll is a Research Associate in the Human Factors team at ZHAW in Zurich (Switzerland) since 2021. She holds a Bachelor`s degree in Psychology, a Master`s degree in Human Factors Engineering from TU Munich (Germany) and a PhD in Human Factors from Ulm University (Germany). Her main research interest is in understanding the interaction of road users with automated and cooperatively interacting vehicles. She is involved in different projects investigating road safety and changes that will arise with automated vehicles.
